Student Stories - Model of Resident Assi

When tasked with developing our own student development theory, our group looked at Resident Assistants at Marquette Univeristy while focusing on their motivation and persistence within their role. We found common themes amongst our sample of participants and have reflected the ideas learned from our interviews into our model.

In our Environmental Theory and Assessment graduate course, we had the opportunity to develop an assessment plan based off of one of our past experiences. I decided to highlight my experience on ITC and develop an assessment to measure whether ITC prepares students to be more globally competent after their study abroad experience. For our graduate capstone course, I worked within a team of three to explore peer mentoring models for the College of Business Administration (CoBA) at Marquette University. Along with other campus partners at Marquette, CoBA wanted to center their internal and external structural changes on the idea of increasing student retention and graduation rates within the college. Lack of engagement from mentees was a key issue that CoBA was facing currently with the peer mentoring program. Key initiatives our group was tasked with in aiding CoBA was to restructure the peer mentoring program to provide more autonomy to the peer-to-peer community and to strategize ways to build engagement for the peer mentoring program.

For our History in Higher Education class, we had the opportunity to choose a historical topic in postsecondary education that could be researched using original documents and primary sources from university archives. I chose to do my research on the "Historical Overview of Expansion & Enrollment at Concordia University Wisconsin." Through my research, I explored the history of CUW from it's start in Milwaukee and the factors that ultimately prompted its move to Mequon, WI. I also examined the background, history, and purchase of the Notre Dame of the Lake campus. I also discuss the Lutheranization of the pre-existing physical environment of campus and how CUW adapted the campus to fit their needs and mission.

For our American Law and the Educational Organization course, I worked within a group to research a higher education law topic. Our group chose to focus on tenure denials cases in higher education. We developed a 30-minute presentation discussing the history of the topic and its current legal status.

For Communications 416 Training and Development, I created a four hour comprehensive training plan for Education Abroad Peer Advisors in the Office of International Education. This training plan includes all materials and instructions necessary to instruct trainees. The entirety of the training plan is more than 50 pages long and I received the highest grade in the class for my work.

In Communications 308 Small Group Communication, my team researched and analyzed the lack of scholarships resources for education abroad. Our team identified the need to increase scholarships for education abroad, and in our proposal identified multiple avenues to improve scholarships resources.

For Marketing 312 Consumer Behavior, my team created a new product and thoroughly researched the market to learn about product, price, place, and promotion. My responsibilities of the project included special focus on the design of our product as well as creating advertising campaigns for our products.

For class in Communications 216 Communication in the Interview,

I was tasked with interviewing three industry professionals about the gender gap within education abroad. I had the opportunity to interview the Assistance Vice Chancellor for International Education at UW-River Falls as well as the Head of Global Product Marketing at Adform.

For Marketing Communications 335 Sales and Event Planning, my class planned, promoted, and hosted an event for a River Falls non-profit, Our Neighbors' Place. With my team of students, we planned a "winter carnival" titled UW-River Falls Decks the Halls. I was the lead coordinator for our button making booth. My booth brought in more than 150 dollars of profit to be donated to Our Neighbors' Place. Together as a class we raised more than 3,000 dollars.
